I'm not sure what it is about peanut butter that I find so appealing... the taste, the texture, the small flashbacks to childhood that I get when I bite into a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. But I am well aware that I am one of the few. The majority of adults despise peanut butter, and even more are allergic to peanuts, leaving only a small fraction of adults who enjoy it, and even fewer who are genuine devotees. Peanut butter is supreme! It's one of the most delicious and healthy treats for both adults and children. Indeed, according to the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, eating 2 tablespoons of peanut butter straight from the jar (like I frequently do) may be a good habit! Vitamins A and E, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, and fibre are just a few of the key vitamins and nutrients found in peanut butter.Furthermore, research evidence suggests that eating 1.5 ounces of peanuts per day, in combination with a low-saturated-fat and low-cholesterol diet, may lessen the risk of heart disease. A Harvard study published in 2002 found that women who ate peanut butter and nuts had a lower chance of developing type 2 diabetes.Is peanut butter good for losing weight?Unfortunately, peanut butter has a high fat level, which might lead to weight gain if consumed in excess, especially for me. As a result, I'm obliged to limit my peanut butter consumption. But it doesn't mean I don't appreciate my all-time favourite food any less. In fact, the health and flavour benefits of consuming peanut butter much exceed the fat issue and the fact that I have to limit myself. Everything should be done in moderation...
